Talent Youth Wanted 2009-06-25 Talent Youth Wanted Everyone has a talent, and at Skills Yorkshire and the Humber, we want you to find your talent. Skills Yorkshire and the Humber is the region’s largest careers and training event for young people and it showcases hundred of opportunities for talented young people. With a great range of employers, educational organisations and training providers Skills Yorkshire and the Humber is being sponsored by The National Apprenticeship Service and will give thousands of young visitors the chance to find out more about career opportunities, and the world of work in a fun and interactive way.Happening at the Sheffield Arena on Wednesday 7 and Thursday 8 October, Skills Yorkshire and the Humber is interactive - giving young visitors a chance to try new skills and new challenges helping them realise their talents – it could be changing a tyre in record time, creating the perfect hairstyle or designing a computer game. Whatever talents young people have hidden Skills Yorkshire and the Humber will help them find them for their future and the best route to success, whether that is further or higher education, training or an Apprenticeship.
Nick Wilson, Regional Director for The National Apprenticeship Service in Yorkshire and the Humber said:
“The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) is delighted to support Skills Yorkshire and the Humber. Our region is full of opportunities for young people and this important careers event helps to identify the best route for each individual. Deciding which career path to take can be a difficult decision, which is why we’re encouraging young people to come along to Sheffield Arena for information and to understand the options that are available to help them acquire the skills needed to get on in the workplace and in life.”
“I firmly believe it’s never been easier to apply for an apprentice within Yorkshire and the Humber, thanks to the new Apprenticeship Vacancies Online, which has simplified the process of matching apprentices with employers. This free on-line apprentice recruitment system puts employers in touch with a database of interested candidates within their area at the click of a button. The system also provides guidance and information on all aspects of Apprenticeships. Come and visit us at our Apprenticeships stand where we will be on hand to advise young people how to get a step closer to their dream career”
Last year Skills Yorkshire and the Humber welcomed over 7,000 visitors and this year the event is set to be bigger and better. Many employers and organisations from across the region have already booked to be a part of Skills Yorkshire and the Humber including the NHS.
Alison Ackew from the NHS in Yorkshire and the Humber is looking forward to coming back at Skills Yorkshire and the Humber this Autumn she commented “NHS Trusts in the region are keen to showcase the wide range of exciting and rewarding career opportunities which exist in the health sector, and promote healthy messages. Skills Yorkshire and the Humber offers a great chance for us to pass this message we on to many thousands of young people in an interesting and interactive way.”
Alison explained “last year our stand was so busy, I’m sure the reason we were popular was the fact that we had staff from the service on hand to give advice. We also had an ambulance at the venue and offered hands-on activities for the young people to participate in. The worst possible thing at a careers event is to sit there handing out leaflets and freebies. We love the interaction, there’s no better way to help young people get involved and better informed to make career choices than have them join in real career related activities and have fun.”
