What happened in 2009?

Earning and learning
Visitors who wanted to keep learning, but were ready to start work, found out loads about apprenticeships. There are more than 180 career choices available ranging from accountancy to football, engineering to veterinary nursing, business administration to construction. On the Apprenticeship stand there were great interactive demonstrations including landscaping, window dressing, floristry and hair & beauty.  Young apprentices talked about their experiences and advisers were on hand to help guide visitors through the new matching system to search for the perfect opportunity.

Climb to the top of your career
The Army offers a range of career paths and visitors had fun finding out on the climbing wall and inside a Warrior tank.  Many students - and teachers - tested their reaction speed and agility with the giant BATAK electronic game.

A whole new you
Leeds City College, Bradford College, Doncaster College and The Employability and Skills Group pampered visitors including The Rt Hon Rosie Winterton MP who enjoyed a beauty treatment with Oracle.  On offer was the chance to pamper and try a new hairstyle, nails painted or enjoy a massage. Visitors sat back and enjoyed finding out about their hands-on courses and leave with all the information and a makeover!

Sniff out your future
The main attraction for visitors to Her Majesty’s Prison Service stand was the drug detection dogs.  They looked so cute, particularly the puppy, but the dogs do a really important job making sure drugs don’t get into prisons.

Dig deep
Visitors tried to find oil and gas deposits deep inside OPITO - The Oil & Gas Academy's special Earth feature.  They found it, captured it, drilled it and put it in barrels – in an exciting interactive game.

Building the future
Leeds College of Building gave visitors a chance to create their own stencil and have a go at decorating, joinery and carpentry, all very useful skills for life and work!

Counting the ways to success
Kaplan’s stand was always busy with visitors trying to take part in their interactive apprenticeship quiz; winners received £5 music vouchers. It was a great lesson in learning to count the £££s training to be an accountant.

All Aboard
Travel and tourism students from Doncaster College gave cabin crew demonstrations and visitors interested in taking to the skies had a go at giving instructions.  Sports students provided health checks and floristry students said it with flowers making corsages and fascinators for all.

Ride to a perfect finish
Visitors raced past the winning post with Careers in Racing. They tested their jockeying skills and found out about careers in the horseracing industry.

Learn a new language
Visitor to the Doncaster School and College for the Deaf learnt a new way of communicating, picking up a new fun way to finger spell finding out about the different careers working across the deaf community.

Headline news
Leeds City College made headline news with their dedicated newsroom studio.  Visitors had a chance to be in front of the camera reading the news of their own success or be behind the camera directing their career.

Create a masterpiece
Leeds College of Art's stand was buzzing as visitors created their own masterpiece and won fantastic prizes.

Dummy run
The team from The Source, the training centre for Meadowhall, helped visitors dress a mannequin for the best visual effect, those with real style had the chance to win £50 of Meadowhall vouchers.

Full speed ahead
The University of Huddersfield brought their student racing car designed and tested by their engineering students which thrilled students interested in their degrees.

Performances

Students and experts from colleges across the region gave sparkling performances throughout the two days and evening opening.
